Built for comfort.

massive louvered pergola with solar screens at Lake Forest Golf Club in Ann Arbor Michigan

This Ann Arbor, Michigan project features a large-scale StruXure pergola installation at Lake Forest Golf Club, designed to enhance the comfort and usability of their expansive back deck. The owner wanted to create a more inviting space for golfers to relax, dine, and gather, while also making the venue more attractive for events and weddings. The Skyview team designed and installed a custom 4-zone StruXure system paired with six MagnaTrack screens to enclose the space. With high wind exposure overlooking the course, the screens provide critical protection, maintaining a calm and comfortable environment even in challenging conditions. The result is a versatile, high-performance outdoor space that supports both daily use and large-scale events.

The Basics

Engineered to handle conditions most patios cannot.

This project features a large 4-zone StruXure pergola system paired with six MagnaTrack screens, installed on the back deck of Lake Forest Golf Club in Ann Arbor. The space faces significant wind exposure, making comfort a consistent challenge. The combination of adjustable louvers and high-performance screens allows the club to control sun, airflow, and wind, turning a difficult environment into a highly usable space.

What was the vision?

Take a great view and make it usable.

The deck already had one of the best views on the property, but it was not always comfortable enough for guests to fully enjoy. Strong winds coming off the course limited how often the space could be used. The goal was to create a setting where golfers could stay, relax, and spend more time after their round, while also giving the club a reliable space for hosting events, weddings, and gatherings without worrying about the weather.

“The view was always there, but the conditions made it hard for people to really enjoy the space. We wanted something that would make the deck comfortable no matter what the weather was doing.”

StruXure Pergolas

The StruXure system installed on this project is configured across four zones, allowing the club to adjust sunlight and airflow across a large footprint. Whether it’s full sun, partial shade, or protection from passing weather, the system gives staff control over the environment throughout the day without disrupting the experience for guests.

MagnaTrack Screens

Six MagnaTrack screens were integrated into the structure to address one of the biggest challenges on the site: wind. With a sustained wind rating of up to 75 miles per hour, the screens allow the space to remain calm and comfortable even when conditions on the course are rough. At the same time, the clear material preserves visibility and natural light, so guests never feel closed in.

“This was not just about adding shade, it was about solving a real environmental challenge. Once the wind was controlled, the space immediately became more valuable to the club.”

Ann Arbor, MI
a space that performs as well as it looks

What changed most in this project is consistency. The deck is no longer dependent on calm weather to be enjoyable. It now functions as a reliable extension of the clubhouse, giving guests a comfortable place to gather and giving the club more confidence in how they use the space for both daily operations and special events.

“The difference is noticeable right away. People stay longer, the space gets used more often, and it’s become one of the most important areas of the club.”
